Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Melting (SLM)

Create durable, precise, cost-effective parts for rapid prototyping, low volume production, or end use parts

About Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Melting (SLM)

Both Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) and Selctive Laser Melting (SLM) allow durable, precise, cost-effective parts to be created for rapid prototyping, low volume production, or end use parts. The rapid turnaround of this digital manufacturing process allows faster design iteration and shortens time to market, enabling users to respond quickly to changing consumer and market demands. Parts are highly customized and can offer complexity that traditional manufacturing cannot match. SLS and SLM have the added advantage of not requiring supports, so time is saved in post-processing.

µ-SLS and µ-SLM deliver these advantages in micron-level scale, allowing parts to be manufactured with incredible detail and accuracy. This unique process meets market demands across many industries for increasingly smaller, more complex devices.

Lasers must have excellent stability to ensure build consistency and durability. Excellent beam quality allows for higher focus resolution for fine details. Scan heads should be extremely accurate so build surfaces are smooth with excellent edge definition. Higher wattages and faster scanners (or using multiple laser/scanner subsystems in parallel) will provide faster throughput.
