Laser systems use graphical marking to create images ranging from simple shapes to logos to full grey-scale images on a wide range of materials and products. Laser systems offer a particular advantage over traditional systems because their non-contact marking method can create detailed graphic marks on delicate materials as well as curved or uneven surfaces. Laser marking can be applied as raster marks delivering the laser beam row by row like a printer, or as a vector mark delivering the mark in a series of lines that follow the path of the graphic. Raster marking is typically used for filled shapes or grayscale images, while faster vector marking is used for unfilled shapes and logos.

 

Novanta has advanced the design of scan heads using digitally controlled, high speed galvanometers with progressive mirror coatings that deliver tightly focused laser beams for higher levels of detail and faster throughput speeds. Laser marking systems are used to create graphical marks for:
