About Stereolithography (SLA)

Stereolithography offers the highest resolution, best detail, and smoothest surface finish of the many 3D printing technologies. This extremely versatile process can be used across a range of photopolymer resins with different optical, mechanical, and thermal properties meeting the needs of diverse industries. Part sizes can range from the micron-level to the size of the build chamber (over a meter) and still maintain exceptional accuracy. The versatility and tight tolerances available through SLA are often used to create molds, patterns, tools, and functional parts for industries ranging from engineering and manufacturing to medical and dental devices to jewelry.

 

Unique processes like µ-SLA and eSLA meet the growing demand for smaller, more complex devices. As the name implies, µ-SLA brings the advantages of SLA to the micro scale, creating highly detailed parts for prototyping, short run production, and creating manufacturing masters. eSLA combines metal sintering with the SLA build process, allowing conductive structures to be built on surfaces or contained entirely within SLA parts. These specialty processes open the door for extremely unique devices.

 

Scan heads must be extremely accurate to provide the necessary level of detail and edge smoothness this process is known for.  Laser wattage will determine the necessary system speed, with higher wattages allowing for faster builds and more rapid part turnaround.
