Passive Emitter Rear Contact (PERC)

Perforate the rear passivation layer and increase conversion efficiency for Passivated Emitter Rear Contact (PERC) solar cells

About Passivated Emitter Rear Contact (PERC)

Laser contact opening is used in the manufacture of Passivated Emitter Rear Contact (PERC) solar cells to perforate the rear passivation layer and increase conversion efficiency. Laser systems are used to precisely control the shape, depth, and positioning of contact points to ensure optimal cell efficiency. On-the-fly processing (wafers run on a continuous conveyor past the laser system) allows excellent throughput while highly accurate scan heads ensure contacts are precisely placed and consistent. Laser systems are highly reliable, able to perform 24/7 operation in challenging environments.

To ensure high quality contact opening with minimal heat impact, ultrafast lasers are often used in this application. Scan heads or polygons must be high speed and extremely accurate to meet both throughput and contact positioning requirements.
