Broadband ultrafast lasers to expand Raman-based measurements
Both Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) and Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) are both based on coherent Raman scattering processes and are spectroscopic methods sensitive to vibrational signatures of molecules similar to standard Raman spectroscopy. As CARS uses photons of two different colors to address the molecular vibration, it needs to be done either by tuning the wavelength of either of these beams or by broadband ultrafast lasers, so it creates a resonantly enhanced signal at a third wavelength when the frequency difference of these two photons coincides with a Raman resonance giving vibrational contrast.
