ELEPHANT 3-Axis Scan Head

The optical design of the ELEPHANT scan head offers a wide range of working field sizes and processing distances and makes it possible to customize the scan head precisely to meet the customer’s requirements without altering the overall size of the scan head. The fast Z-axis enables a high-dynamic focus shifting. This allows economical and precise processing of 3-dimensional parts, without changing the position of the part or the scan head. Our solution features an option with and without fiber coupling, the FIBER ELEPHANT, or the ELEPHANT scan head, respectively. Additionally, different wavelength and aperture selections are available to enable the perfect fit for your application. Efficient processes and high flexibility in terms of working volume sizes make the ELEPHANT a future-oriented and versatile solution for cutting, perforating, engraving, and welding applications.

ELEPHANT 3-Axis Scan Head
Description

The ELEPHANT high-performance scan heads are used for a broad range of laser processing applications, including cutting, perforating, engraving, and welding applications. These scan heads have been specially developed for large work areas and offer a very good spot performance over the entire scan range, even over large working distances. They are employed in automated applications and are available in various models with and without fiber coupling option.

Crossjet design

Our The innovative Crossjet design ensures the long service life of the protective window and optics, even in harsh ambient conditions with intense sparking, while consuming only a very small quantity of compressed air.

Our design combines a de Laval nozzle and the practical application of the “air amplifier” principle: The compressed air is first accelerated to a supersonic speed by the annular-shaped de Laval nozzle. The nozzle is arranged in such a way as to create a vacuum at the rear of the Crossjet that causes the ambient air to be drawn in and also accelerated.

This produces an amplified air stream several times greater than the flow rate employed even with a lower consumption of compressed air.

  • For the industry-standard operating pressure of 6 bar (600 kPa)
  • Homogeneous air stream as a result of the air supply from both sides
  • Efficient design for a strong air stream with low consumption of compressed air
  • High flow velocity over long distances for optimum particle deflection
  • Long service life for the protective window and optics
